is the boot over the track rod nut needed for SVA? (first time I've come across this)..

Thanks.

I believe so.

Pic below shows whats underneath. I would call those sharp edges.

They are from the end of a TIG lead, where it connects to the welding plant.

They slip on like a well greased sea boot.
