any ideas what this is for or called?

its about a foot long,with 3 plungers at the base operating the dti.pretty old,the box its in has dovetailed joints!i'm guessin its for measuring the bore of something but dont know why there are 3 plungers! Rescued attachment Image0047.jpg

Looks like a 'Dial Bore Gauge'.

Used for checking for tapers or ovals in bores.

i'll take another picture when i'm home.its just a normal dti face i think.one large dial,one small one counting full revolutions.

cheers fellas.guessed it was something like that.it was in a box of other regularly needed things such as a kingpin reamer for a 1937 austin 10!father should really tidy his garage more often!

Agree....that is definitely a dial bore gauge.

Typically you will set it up (ie zero it) with ring gauge of known size and accuracy then use it to gauge bores giving you a plus or minus reading compared to the gauge size.
