Car hire in london ?

i need to hire a car to get from london to kent and back in a couple of weeks time
I've been looking and the city centre ones are far to expensive for my tastes

ideally I'd like to be able to drop it off somewhere near Ware or at thats least easy/quick to get to Ware (can pick up from there too if need be), but so far I've not found anything....

anyone here got any recommendations ?

cheers
-Robert

Not sure how long you need it for but just had a quick search on Hertz

Broadwater Road, Welwyn Garden City (not far from Ware) has compacts for about £25-£30 per day Sat/Sunday....

What's wrong with the train? Depends what your doing and how many people I guess.

the train would be ideal (were using it for most of the trip as it is)
but the places were going in kent are very hard work to get to on the train / bus

lots of changes each way and several hours longer than driving - its looking like we've got about 4 places to get to each day - mostly in the deepest, darkest end of kent (takes all day to get there on the train)

so we'd end up on trains and busses all day and miss the whole point of going to kent

the biggest issue with car hire seems to be dropping it off on sunday
anyone know which car hire places are open on a sunday apart from the airports ?

I see your point, having once spent about 4 hours taking a train from Ashford to Whitstable (Or at least I think thats where I went it involved changing trains and took all day).

If you want to drop it off on sunday ports and airports might be your only option. I've got a feeling though there are places in Dover and folkstone that might be able to do this.
