Roll Bar Mounts
Due to saving space, im wondering how people have secured their roll bar to the chassis?
I would like to weld mine to a plate and bolt the the mount behind the rear of the seats, but wondered what SVA states on this.

If it's bolt on, I 'think' it counts as cosmetic.
However, at least 3 12.9 grade bolts a side
will do nicely.

The bit the roll bar is welded to, or the plate on the chassis? Either way, I don't think so, although the tester would (I presume) like to see
3mm or so.

Actually, looking at, are you mounting the harness/seatbelt on that cross bar? If so, it becomes structural.

MSA year book to the rescue methinks.
Tube Plate to be thickness of tube wall, min 3mm, minimum of 3 x m8 grade 8.8 bolts to be used.
Plate that you weld on bodyshell to be at least 3mm and 120cm in area. (so if your platform is 3.5 x 3.5 you are good to race)
Or you can lose the bolts and footplate and weld the tube directly to the chassis plate.
Although not required I would add gussets to extend the area of the tube base.
In short you are fine doing what you propose.

Mine is bolted on and many other people do the same,I used 4 m10 bolts either side into solid bars inside the chassis tubes and 2 M12 bolts into the
rear stays at the rear corners of the chassis., all are grade 8,8s.
It was not a problem at SVA all the inspector wanted to know was that the seat belt mounts were fully threaded and welded both sides of the tube.

I should add, your cage is no-longer worthy of a race pass as you are not allowed to bore holes through the hoop for cross braces, these should be
fish mouthed then welded to the hoop.
I do not suppose Mr SVA will care about this aspect though.

That's exactly what he's done isn't it?
looks like it - buit I don't understand the short stub of tube on the outside of the hoop ?

Thanks for the responses i will check out your picture archives, to see how yours are mounted.
The seat belt mounts are tapped all the way as they are inserts that was drill and tapped, and edges radius on lathe, with a file.
See below and you'll see why there are stubs on the outer edges of the hoop.

Im aware you can weld it direct to chassis, but i wish to bolt mine on.
