Bike Engine
Hi all, I'm new! But I have been reading and following the thread for sometime.
Just wondering... I don't see many topics on bike engines. Is there any specific reason?
I am thinking of building a Hayabusa Locost from scratch. Any advice? Any websites/forum that anyone knows, covers lots of bike engine stuff?

There is also a Bike Engined Cars forum on Yahoo - http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/
Search for 'Bike Engined Cars' (oddly enough!). It is a lot less user-friendly than this forum but there's some serious knowledge on
there.
As far as advice goes...do it!! I have a blade engined Stuart Taylor and can't recommend it highly enough.

Hmm...
Thanks guys! This forum has helped me a lot... will definitely go ahead to build one!
Was thinking of a Hayabusa at first, but after browsing thru some BEC builder's diary, decided to go with R1 or the Blade.
My challenge now is figuring out the rest of the parts needed, donor cars are hard to come by from where I am, so most probably will have to purchase
them new (or recon). Let's see... got lots more research to do...

the busa costs about 3 times the price of a blade or similar engine.......

How come? Where you from? What area of the world has cars/bikes that doesn't therefore have old cars/bikes? 
For the amount it'll cost you to buy stuff new maybe an amount of travelling would be worthwhile?

firstly, apologies for the late reply, been very behind with my emails.
I'm from Malaysia, it's not that we do not have old cars, the type of cars widely availabel here very different from what is being
discussed in this forum. We have more japanese car parts, of which may work out to be more ideal, but the problem is, I don't know which are
suitable (due to my lack of knowledge!). Having said that, anyone out there familiar with Jap stuff? Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi parts are a dime a
dozen.
I already having problems sourcing for the bike engine. Currently first choice R1, 2nd Blade 3rd Busa.

rwd honda eg s2000 and toyota eg supra, corolla, celica have been mentioned, but mainly for engines and rwd gearboxes. could be used as donors, but as
said before the more you stray from the plans in the book (Assuming thats what you're using) the harder/longer it gets.

if you have mazda rx7' s over there then it can be used for front suspension spindles, rear irs modifing chassis/ wishbones to suit.

Read your posts under chassis, how about the old models of Hyundai's as donors, I'm pretty sure the pony was an Escort,the Stella a
Cortina,but with Mitsubishi engines.
The alternative might be old Daewoo which were old Vauxhalls I think but they may be FWD.
I can just about remember something about Ford selling the complete production lines to the Koreans.
Surely these are knocking about in Malaya.

Have a look on the Aussie site as they'll point you in the right direction as far as Far Eastern Donors are concerned........... I think!!

Having said that, yes, i realise, been reading up on some aussie builder's site, closer to what I can source for locally!
Bob, yup, agree with you with the korean cars, and best thing we do have them here, though still very scarce. I guess that's the interesting
bit, huh?
My option right now is down to Nissan 200sx or the Silvia, otherwise the MX5 may just fit the bill too.
