Wing stays on Cortina uprights
I have Luego wing stays which have three 8mm holes which line up with holes in the back of the Cortina uprights. The problem is that an 8mm bolt
doesn't fit the upright hole and a 6mm one just slids right through. I know that the hole is threaded as I can feel the thread with the 6mm
bolt. It also feels as if the hole is larger on the side obstructed by the disc (the outside ).
Question is then does anyone know the correct size/thread pitch for these holes? What were they used for in their original form? Should I just drill
them out and fit a lock nut on the backside?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Andy' they will be imperial AF of some sort: either UNC UNF or BSF. THey look too fine for unc, bsf tap nearly goes in, havn't
got a unf tap to try. Personaly, I will drill out mine 8.5mm and tap M10. No hassle to find a set of matching bolts then. Sorry I can't be
more help.

They're 8mm, get a tap and clean them out!
Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Yes, deffo 8mm. As ChrisG says, get yerself a tap and clean out from disc side out, and the bolts will fit in a treat. IME you havent got a hope in
hell of winding a bolt in till you do this....
Dont just build it.....make it!

Are so I'm right that the hole need to be attacked from the disc side then?
As the whole hub/disc assembly is... erm... assembled I'd have to take it all apart to get at the hole from the disc side!
No problem with just drilling it out from the inside and using a lock nut is there?

Why not clean them out from the other side? As you are cleaning, not cutting a new thread, you could hold the tap in a socket and ratchet for easier
access

Thanks guys.
I'll run an 8mm tap thru from the bone side and if all else fails I'll just use a locknut.
