Exhaust silencer mounting
I've modified a Westfield 5 inch silencer to fit onto my Mac1 and am pondering how to mount it 
Westfield use a flat piece of steel bolted to the exhaust clamp that holds tailpipe to silencer,looks crap and I've also shortened the tailpipe
and welded it on rather than have a clamp on it.
Was hoping to use a strap type mount like bikes use,but can't seem to find any that go big enough for a 5 inch silencer,needs to be 410mm
long.
So pics of what people have done would be appreciated please

I made a similar strap out of mild steel bar that I bent and shaped to fit round the Westfield silencer and painted to stop it rusting. I tried
aluminium initially but it didn't last long before it cracked.
I also have a second mount on the exhaust clamp.

I brazed a strip of stainless on the underside of mine then used the usual bobbin mount but I have a heat shield around the silencer so its not seen
anyway

Ah right cheers,what size bar did you use? And was it easy to get nice and round?

ok cheers. Does brazing use less heat than welding?
As I've welded a stainless silencer before and it set the wadding on fire inside!

I'd need to check but I think it was something like 1mm x 20mm, and yes it was fairly easy to shape it on the exhaust, then bend in the vice to
form the ends that the bolt goes through.
As long as you get it the right length it pulls into shape when you tighten it up.
They sell the stuff in B&Q.

Got stainless silencer strap on ebay, bent it to suit
 
Can fix
Strong supports the silencer & easy to change.

Have you put any rubber under it like the bike ones have?

Cheers,I can't see any on E-Bay or Google search that are long enough for a 5 inch silencer?
Needs to be 410mm,the biggest I've found ready made are 390mm.

Will contact them regarding inner sizes, presume where they state 'outer circumference' they are talking about the outside of strap?

yes brazing uses slightly less heat than welding but I had no tig or mig that's why it was brazed but if you have access to a suitable welder
just weld a bracket to your silencer personally I think its neater than a strap round it
