Omex terminals/pins and Omex temp sensor

For some reason, while the guys at Omex have been great to answer my many other questions, I just can't get an answer to:

- Are the male pins of the Omex (710) ecu plated with gold, tin or are they just brass or what? I want to know so that I can mate them with the proper material as I make up my own multiplug. Some say gold is always best, but I don't want to get into galvanic corrosion issues via dissimilar metals if I can avoid it.

- Would the Omex Coolant Temperature sensor (OMEM2200) be usable as an oil temp sensor, as well? I have an extra, but need an oil temp sensor and can't see why the coolant temp sensor wouldn't functions for reading oil temps, too.

Thanks for any info' you can offer.

Thanks Ugg,

I bought mine elsewhere, and it came with tinned terminals. Wondering if it would be wise to replace them with gold terminals.

I forgot to mention that in looking at my Omex710, I am unable to discern what the tips are. They are not silvery, but look more like brass. However, I just cannot really tell by looking.

Omex sell their "Race-spec" harness with gold-plated terminals, but even though that is a higher spec' than the normal harness, I would like to know if the original harness' tinned terminals are a proper match for the ecu or if the ecu has gold terminals to match the "Race-spec" harness...

Thanks,
Steve, in the NLs

I have a 710 in my car, I can have a look to see if I can work out what the terminals are made of tonight if that would help. Mine is the older black box ecu though if that makes a difference. Let me know and I will have a look.

You only get galvanic corrosion in the presence of an electrolyte.....if you have an electrolyte in your mated connector you have problems!

Chances are if the pins don't look shinny silver they are gold. I doubt that connector is available with un-plated brass terminals

Thanks for the offer, but it's not THAT urgent/important. Especially after reading the response from Peter. And mine's far from new, but is not the black one.
Thanks, again,
