SVA Pass at Beverley today!
Hi All,
Passed at Beverley this afternoon. Still very close on the sound level though. Last time with race can and decibel killer I was 102db this time with
R1 can I was 102db although it sounded a hell off alot quieter. So I was given 15mins to dismantle a red hot exhaust and put the db killer in again.
This time it was 99 to 101. I am not convinced that most of the noise is from the exhaust, I think the majority is from inder the bonnet etc.
Anyway they liked the electric handbrake and it passed with flying colours. I may look at offering these as a kit if anyone is interested. I will
guage response.

Great news Steve, I'm sorry you had to mess about with the exhaust, when I tried mine it was under 101db. The car looks good, let us know when
you get your plates.

Andy,
I don't think that it's the can generating most of the noise. As I say I think more is coming out from under the bonnet, induction noise
etc.

The handbrake works using the sierra cables but where they would normally meet the lever they are instead conected to a 12v 750N linear actuator with
a 2500N static force resistance. This is then controlled with a pair of limit switches to minimise travel and allow for quick application (2 seconds).
A savage switch on the dash operates the handbrake. Push it in for on and push it again for off, simple as that. It has a couple of lights on the
dashboard to show it is fully applied etc.

Congrats well done!
Handbrake sounds ace - although make sure your passengers dont fiddle!!! That would be awful if a passenger pushed whilst driving along - hope
you've got it drivers side

I like the idea of the electric handbrake, but, will it not drain the battery if left for a day or so?
I thought about doing this using a solenoid or something for autotest purposes.

There is no drain on the battery at all when parked as it is a worm drive so locks itself off rather than a solenoid.

Definately interested in the elctric handbrake, can you give some more details, as I would like to rid myself of the handbrake lever once and for
all

Ah, that explains it!
Prob would be too slow for handbrake turns then.
Back to solenoid idea.

yea i think you should post up some costs on bits etc!!!
i could get linear actuators from work but all would be too big for the car!!
