Caterham R500, any good? A stylus is quicker :)

I had a play with one at woodbridge today, it was a 59 plate with a seq box. The guy could drive it well and it looked so balanced. It was the quickest thing i saw out there today. Which made it even more enjoyable when I reeled him in, overtook him and managed to keep him behind me for a few laps until the gap got bigger due to me overtaking other cars. I didnt have too much trouble on the straights but he was very good around the twisties..... and i am not! but i could still get away from him in places due to my accelration.

Are they as good as top gear make out. I was certainly impressed. I wouldnt pay 40k for one though

The owner came over and spoke to me at the end, we both exchanged compliments about each other cars, i think he was impressed . It was good to see someone with a proper who was prepared to use it which makes a change!

lifting a wheel like that with your suspension set won't be helping you in the corners i imagine.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

It's tO do with droop. My car is likely to do it too. I think it's due to static sag not being sufficent. To fox it I ned longer shocks with static sag set further away from the extreme if travel.

You could definatly get the car to handle better, I'm sure.

Imagine how satisfying it would be to ha doe similarly and then kill it on the straights too... Doubt it would cost much over a grand to get everything fully sorted.

Edit to say, written on mobile so typing is terrible sorry

was the caterham a orange one as seen him @ woodbride before and was very quick,

But to be honest there was a track r400 which was quicker than the r500 around the track he was on slicks though just seem more balanced,

rough track but cheap fun

guess the car was running well then,

nice motor

So what engine is in your Stylus then? Further at 600 brake/ton (as you claim) then you would beat him on acceleration.

Yes, its a 13b Turbo engine and box from an RX7, car has been mapped at 400 fly hp at 0.8 bar boost, my intercooler is restricting flow so no pint in running more boost, its just tails off. I was quicker on acceleration but his car was more capable and if i had the same power as him he would have beaten me due to the weight advantage. But mine cost 1 tenth to build than he spent to buy

I need to sort a better flowing intercooler (or possible a chargecooler) and then i will have another mapping session to 1.2 bar, although much more than what i have will be unuseable unless i run full slicks.....
