Calling all 4AGE experts.....

Can someone tell me if my phase 3 4AGE is likely to be VAST (Variable Advance Spark Timing) or ESA (Electronic Spark Advance) controlled?

If its not possible to say one way or the other, is there anything obvious under the bonnet that i could check to verify?

Showing my complete ignorance to electrical/electronic issues here

Having got no where near electronics on my engine yet, I am not in the best position to advise, however a quick google search yielded this:

Hope it helps

Prez,

Thanks, funnily enough i read that entire document about 10 minutes before posting my question....

I couldn't work out if my engine was VAST or ESA from that, but there is a very good chance that my lack of knowledge stoppd me from reading what i needed to read - if you get my drift?

Andrew,

I've sent you a PM.

The phase 3 as fitted to Corolla Gti late models usually used ESA. The difference is in the wiring of the NE signal from the dizzy. The VAST system has this wired direct to the Ignitor and then a return signal to ECU for timing.
