Vauxhall 24v Rev Counter Trigger?

Evening lads,

Can anyone confirm that the straight six 24v vauxhall engine uses traditional coil pulses for the lcd rev counter? i.e it uses the -ve side to work out the revs?

I don't know if it uses a coil pack with wasted spark system where the rev counter info would be got from the ecu instead.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

G

Sorry, I'm at work so not got my book with me, trying to do this from memory.

If the memory is working correctly the 24v from the old senitor was a straight six. However the coil (single, with dizzy) is triggered by the ECU on receiving a pulse from a crank position sensor.

Memory gets a bit fuzzy where the tacho is concerned, but I'm assuming it's electronic (I mean why have and ecu and crank pulse and not use it) in which case you will find a wire on the loom which has a duplicate of the crank pulse (coming from the ECU normally) to drive the tacho, you can use this as your pickup.

My memory has never been much so please correct me if I'm worng somewhere.

Simon

Trigger pulse wire is green, whether it comes from ECU, or coil (usually amplifier).

Vauxhall 24 Valve Rev Counter Trigger

Hi Mr G!
Sorry a bit late but finally joined forum.
The straight 6, 24 valve in the in Vx Carlton GSI 3000 24V and/or Senator is known as the C30SE. 208 bhp ish from new and torquey as hell. I think you're right about using -ve side of coil for rev counter (my tamed Vx contact agreed) but not certain about wasted spark system. Go to the club site - www.Autobahnstormers.co.uk you should be able to ask one of the experts!?! Can I take my anorak off now please??
