duratec engine build advice
Hi
I have a question to the duratec engine builders out there - I'm putting mine back together, and am wondering if you oil the bolts for the crank
girdle when you put it back. I have the build manual, and it doesn't say to do this, and I have the instructions for my new rods which are very
specific about how the bolts should be done.
So - do you oil the bolts before you torque them up?

Have you got the cosworth manual? In there for the crank girdle it says 'fit bolts as they came out of the engine, do not degrease, do not apply
any oil to them'

Ahhh - rather than shove everything through the parts-cleaner, which I did.
I don't have the cosworth manual, but the ford/mazda manual. Is there a copy I can buy?
I know for things like my rods, there are different grades of ARP assembly lube, and each has a torque setting, which is why I was wondering about
this ...

Actually, I had a lightbulb moment, and it turns out I bought a main-bearing stud kit from SBD. As such I now have the right studs to go in,
they're reusable, and it comes with a tube of lube, and torque settings.
So, phew - relief.

It's one thing to have bolts left over after a build, but to have expensive, unused bolts left over... eep!  I think I'd be a bit
knarked if I'd remembered them later on.

Yup. I do feel like a doofus.
The nice thing was that the guys that honed my bores obviously did the right thing and it the studs in and torqued up the cradle before honing.
Since then I've done a major inventory and don't think I have any more expensive bits left lying around.
The arp studs are pretty interesting. They have a hollow nut that screws down over the stud top and on to the block. I torqued it up in three stages
form 30lbs/foot to 60 in increments of 15.
It felt like I had done it properly. No doubts.

That was excellent - just what I needed.
It was making sense, but I've got a lot invested in this engine, so want to take it slowly and question any niggling doubts I feel.

that is an amazing read, was there ever such a good document done for the zetec?
