How early can I buy my next Tax Disc?

I got the renewal notice but I can't see the date at which I can buy the new one and have it start in May, off hand does anyone know when I can get one from the post Office (I want to do it with Cash).

If your car has a current tax disc (ie not SORN) then you can get the tax disc online from the 11th of the previous month. I applied for my tax disc five days ago (11th) to start when the old one runs out at the end of this month.

If it's already taxed; as soon as you get the reminder.

If it's not currently taxed; you can do it 2 days before the end of the month and have it start 1st month, or any time and it'll start at the begining of the current month.

I beleive you should be able to do it the first time you find an open post office and have the relevant documents with you...tomorrow if you're organised!

Fifth of the month before you expire with the reminder

If you receive a V11 renewal from DVLA, you can use this to renew your tax disc or make a SORN. You can do this from the fifth day of the month that your current tax disc or SORN is due to expire.

But ...you could have done it last month if you needed to..

Tax in advance
You can renew your tax up to two calendar months in advance in person or by post at a Post Office® branch that deals with advance applications or a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) local office.

Take or send:

•Registration Certificate
•completed V10 ‘Vehicle licence application’
•insurance certificate or cover note – must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
•valid MOT certificate - if the car or motorcycle is over three years old - must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
•the payment for vehicle tax
•a letter to explain why you’re taxing in advance if you’re making a postal application

Thanks for all the info, so with the reminder, I can go to a post office as soon as I'm free to do so and get a tax disc starting may 1st?
