Retro-fit aircon????

Am seriously thinking of buying a 60's classic which is currently a rolling chassis i.e. interior's completely stripped out.
Given we'll probably be doing some trips to Italy I'd quite like to fit aircon.
Anyone any experience of doing this?
How difficult/easy - presumably nothing a locoster can't handle?
Can you simply pick all the bits up at a scrappy from a modern (sizes of pump, heat exchanger etc all being suitable)?
What sort of costs/pitfalls involved?
Thanks in anticipation.
Cheers, Pewe

40inches vv so they do - kinda pricey though @ c. £1k - might try the locost route first. Ta, P.

Check the CBS site, they sell aircon bits and kits, and, I think, instructions

As said, CBS....
Get the catalogue it has full mechanical and electrical instructions + they do all the parts.
This was to go in their Lola replica and I know a lot of the GT40 boys use them.

Hi,

Don't think CBS did a Lola Replica, they did the Foreman Mk4, a Ferrari P4 Replica. I fitted their Air Con in my car & I am very pleased with it, it works fine, I just have to remember to shut it off if I stop in traffic as with no ECU, the tickover dosn't speed up to compensate for the compressor load & it stalls the engine, a chevy V8.

All the best,

Brian.

I was always under the impression that retro fitted AC was a bad idea and didn't work well, but I supose that you wouldn't normally be doing it to a car you completely stripped back to begin with.

I don't know how its been where you are but I think I'd have actually died in the past 2 months without my AC. Being sat at traffic lights when its 30 degrees out.
