merc 240 petrol

My boss has an old Merc which he is sentimental about, but it hasn't stopped him buying an 6.3 AMG MERC TO REPLACE IT.
Question ...the old merc has cats fitted to the exhaust but they are falling to bits, can they just be cut out and replaced with straight through pipe, will this throw the ECU into get you home mode, if so can this be bypassed?
What other probs would this cause?
Thanks in advance
Denis.

MOT is the only problem if it has a cat test it will fail. Does the ecu on a motor that old actually read the exhaust gas ratios ?

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

how old is it? Cant remember the year but if its before they were required then cutting them off is ok. Think it was 95?

Or... you could split them open take the guts out and weld a pipe inside then weld the outer casings back on so it look like its still there.

if theres 1 before and after it may put alight on as they sense the difference before and after the cat.
