FS : Sylva Leader (maybe.)

Anyone interested in taking this on ?

Came to me as a complete going car about 5 years ago.
I started stripping bits off to rectify a few defects and ended up with a bare chassis as that made most sense.

The chassis is now 100 % good and all running gear is with the car and is also all good now.

The circumstances in which I will be able to complete it seem no more likely now than they have done for a while, hence the reason for considering selling.

It's correctly registered on a 1974 M reg as a Sylva Leader with the date of first reg as 01/08/1974.
I'm fully aware that this nice bit of documentation is the most valuable aspect of the project but wouldn't want someone to do a Dutton with it.

As you can possibly tell, this is a kind of half hearted go at this as I'm not terribly convinced I should either sell it or keep it.

I know what it owes me and it isn't a fortune, priced would be likewise and it's a better buy than any number of ebay projects which are full strip down jobs anyway.

I'll stop typing, I'm getting down now.

You know what to do depending on your thoughts on this post.

What engine etc is it running? Does it just need reassembling or are other parts missing? Not seen one of these before but looks very different from the usual sevenesque.

Noooooo £650!!? I know you seem to have a bit of of a downer on the poor thing for some reason but a registered Sylva (even in bits) has to be worth a bit more than that! even REALLY tatty Leaders go for over a grand on ebay ffs!! As has been said at that price it will be scrapped for the log book and that would be a real shame I would have bitten your hand off about 6 months ago before I 'swapped' all my bits for an MX5

Don't do it Zil!

A bit of a surprise seeing this here. My thoughts are that it should be finished yesterday. Plenty of mates could help you. Crossflow of course a good example of a historic kit car I would think.

Striker conversion?

Just a thought, but does anyone know how similar is the chassis on the Leader to a Striker (or is it Strika) chassis? Strikers are much more sought after as the styling is more contemporary and sevenesque. Upgrading to Striker bodywork would probably add quite a bit of value to the project.

No doubt it would.

But it's a Leader, and really , that's what it should stay as.

I'm going to ask my guru to issue me with a stern talking to, get things back on track.

Yes I guess you're dead right about that. Even kitcars have a heritage and some day Leaders will be a rare thing (if not already). There was a time when Turners were unloved and now they're classics worth substantial money.

Good luck if you keep it.

Not really.

My shed of despair is a bit of a tip right now.
I have actually enjoyed my time away and have been getting more into the bike.
Today's task after the household stuff is taken care of is to tidy up my garage and make it feasible to go back in there.

I won't give up.
But I won't let it get me down either when it doesn't happen that fast.
I'm a sort of obsessive type and right now, the bike has me.

no harn in giving the bike some attention, I have to get mine out of the garage in order to work on the Leader!

Spent a good few days in the garage on the Leader and expect it to be on the road sometime very soon

Will post up some pics to hopefully offer some inspiration
