When I went through this some years ago (first year of SVA), the local DVLA office inspected the car at home and started processing the paperwork before the SVA. On the day it passed, I walked into the office, handed over the MAC and 30 minutes later had the documents and a tax disk in my hands. Straight off to get plates made and then home to fit them and away

gone are the days of passing an sva at gillingham vosa on a wednesday morning and inspecting/registering it wed afternoon same day at maidstone dvla!

i know a few vosa guys and they have all said kit car iva's have dropped of massively in the last 6-8months, i think when iva initially come in and they put the price up to £450 & £90 retest there were lots of people out there with half done kits who just sucked it up and paid to get on the road.

now there are less and less of those people and the iva cost and pain in the ass dvla centralisation is putting new builders off. I have certainly noticed there is a big shift towards buying older low spec cars that get stripped down and rebuilt with the remainder of their budget modding up to the spec they want. some go so far its hardly the same car at the end which could be potentially as bad as a car with no iva. these days the theme on the site seems to be.... "i have bought this! now what can i do to it' rather than "i have just got ***** kit or **** book how can i put it together?'

there are some good rebuild threads out there but it would be nice to see multiple new build threads like the old days

Thanks for the comments.
I had a nice 45mile drive this evening, just taking it easy.

I do agree with ash. It's been such a hassle going through iva, then all the paper work and the lack of communication from dvla. Vosa don't seem as bad but still take a long time to process a bit of paper.
There were quite a few times when wished I had bought a finished car but I felt I was too far in, to do that.

I'm glad I won't have to go through the iva again

I'm glad I won't have to go through the iva again but it was worth it in the end.
