Rover 3.5 EFi

Just aquired an '87 Range Rover with a 3.5 EFi in it. Bought car for spares to keep the old diesel job on/off road. Engine is a non runner at present. It fires but will not run. Has anybody any ideas? It's just that if it will go I will know if its any good.
If so the whole vehicle might get bob-tailed for off-roading or the engine might be for sale.

P.S. Off-roading is no good to anybody as it takes tome away from the Locost build (chassis now back from powder coating, needs some panelling, and then a bit of assembly).

Rotor arm causes loads of issues on these.

If it churns over and attempts to start you could also try the two sensors that sit just behind the thermostat housing, the front one is the engine temp, the rear operates the cold start injector.

EFI on these is pretty much bomb proof !

Regards Mark

Check the bump switch dosen't need reset if not prime suspect is the Oil pressure switch -- on many older Lucas Efi Rovers the oil pressure switch acts as a hold on signal for the fuel pump relay.

On many models Rover used special oil pressure switch with N.O contacts not N.C.

Cheers for the quick replies.

But query Britishtrident, what's a bump switch?

Fuel pump inertia switch --- cuts off fuel supply if you have a bump.

Rover usually located it behind the centre consol under he radio -- should be same in Land-Rover.

Some other makes such as Jaguar have it in the boot.

Thanks again for all advice.

I know Craig at Egdon, in fact Kenny Lewis, the boss there is a relative. I'm planning a trip out tomorrow and will call and ask them.

Haven't had a petrol V8 since 1st Range Rover in '82. I'm looking forward to that healthy rumble again. If its any good might have to knock up a quick McS 442 to make the most of it.
