has to be a v12 on principal. though strangly no mention of the w format engines not that I've ever heard one that is!
come to think of it, no mention of fuel type either (unleaded, diesel, nitrous, alcohol etc), or rotary, motorbike, vw v5 or electric motors.
Ned.

Ned, you can only have 10 items!
Personally I rather like the sound of the Mustang in Bullitt.

I refuse to vote on principal.
There is no inline 5 cylinder 20 valve motor there.

There's an engine note for you.
Here's the same engine in one of those Dahlback Audi thingys.

Hehe, indeed. I've driven a civic type-r and can testify to that
Love the sound of a Ferrari 360 at full chat (8500rpm) too, makes me wonder how they get away with it being so loud.

V-8 - particularly the one in a TVR Griffith! One drove past me in a car park a while ago, and the windows and panels in my Toyota rattled...

Hi,
Does anyone remember an advert on TV many years ago. I think it was for oil, possibly Duckhams Hypergrade or whatever it was called. It started with a
picture of a long road in the desert with a car approaching through the heat haze with tumble weeds etc blowing around.
Anyway, the sound of that car which I think was an AC Cobra, has stuck with me all these years (perhaps 20 years). It certainly (IIRC) sounded like a
x-plane V8 but I'm not 100%.
I voted for the x-plane V8 for this reason and because I love the Rover V8 engine as some of you will already be very much aware...
Anyone else remember this advert?
Other engines I like are the aircooled Porsche engines and the Group B Audi Quattro mentioned earlier.
Cheers,
Craig.

V8 all the way.... British ones (like the TVR and Rover) have the edge for me.
I went for a ride in a 5.7l Chevy Camaro not so long ago. It had been tweaked a bit (we timed 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds, not bad for a 1.75 tonne
car..), and was rediculously loud. We made a road video of it on the local industrial estate one sunday...burnouts, speed trials etc.
When watching the vid back we notcied about 3 security cameras watching us...nothing came of it...so they must have enjoyed the show
Cheers,
David

i voted v8 too, but i think the v10 obviously needs a mention, but that only sounds so good cos in its usual form (f1) its having its ears revved off.
most engines would sound good at 18k revs!
i like 'blippy' engines, where the revs rise and fall very fast, ie bikes or well tuned things. the v8 in the maserati is of ferrari
origin apparently, that sounds awesome.
Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.

Can't beat the sound of a V8 burbling on idle!
Many moons ago in my misspent youth some friends and I went to Santa Pod and recorded the Yank V8s onto my mates Ghetto blaster.
We would play it back at traffic lights!
Funny we never once got anyone to race us off the lights!
Mmm, I wonder if he still has the tape!
