Tis not bad at all - I'd drive something like that if funds allowed.

I can see Lotus Elite in the arse end though.

Just need to get my/my brothers (joint owned now!) B-series manta back into "uncrashed" condition and ready for some rallying now!

Oh yes, and finish the locost.

And get the grasser ready for next year.

Did you listen to the rolling road video......................I love the sound of V6's and superchargers, put the two together and it's just the best noise in the world....ever!

For some reason I actaully prefer the sound of a decent V6 to a v8. Most people think this is mad but the v6 sounds so aggressive and urgent. Anybody who has heard a metro 6r4 running unsilenced tarmac rallying in ireland will know what I mean!!!

A mate of mine had a yellow Ascona 'K' reg which was nice at the time, very trendy.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

was that a manta GTJ you mean or an Opel GT?

If it's a manta GTJ, then that's what i have sat outside my workshop awaiting a new 1/4 panel and door!! 1980 one.

Manta handling is just great. There are major flaws in the car but they are all sortable ridiculously cheaply using scrapyard GM bits.

Std brakes are utterly dangerous, same as solid disc nova brakes

Simple upgrade is to fit carlton mk2 vented discs and cavalier/astra 16v/calibra etc calipers which bolt straight on and make the brakes excellent.

The std CIH engine is more of a boat anchor than the venerable pinto, but bin it and fit a late cavalier SRI 8valve engine, last one from a K-reg cavvy cost us £50 (car was £200 with mot etc, test drove it, stripped it, sold £100 worth of crap on ebay and weighed the shell in for £50!!) and gives a pleasant and reliable 130 hp, which bolts straight up to the manta 1800 gearbox and a carlton mk3 clutch.

Because they are simple cars they are reliable to an almost ridiculous degree, they look a bit different and the handing is just awesome. Despite it's modest 130hp there are very few cars that can stay with my brother's manta on the lanes. We've kept the std soft springs but fitted bilstein group a dampers and the grip is just unbelievable (apart from in the wet!)

anyhoo, enough of my rambling!

As I remember it was an Opel GTJ, only ever produced in LHD. I bought it when I was living in Germany. Always thought it was a good looking car, still do. I'll try and find a photo to scan.

We got those here Stateside too. Didn't see many though...

I had an orange Opel Manta GT back in the late 80's. My older sisters' boyfriend sold it to me for $50. It had a nasty habit of steering by itself and he had no mechanical abilities (or money). It turned out to be simply worn steering parts which cost me only a few dollars and some scraped knuckles to replace. I drove that great little car hard and absolutely loved it. Several years later I sold it to my other sister and she drove it until one day a fuel hose split in the engine bay and the entire thing went pooof.

That was a great little car and being rwd it was great fun to drive in the snow! I actually miss it now that I think about it.

Big Manta fan here, was in the owners club for about 10 years before the Locost came on the scene. Have owned 2 GT/Es, 1 Exclusive. and a Mkl Cavalier, rebuilt with GT/E running gear and rally prepared.
My pride and joy was, however, a Kadett C SR Coupe with a Manta engine in it.

That squeal is most likely coming from the dyno.
