Really obscure question - Canam style car in "Spinout"?

They say the internet can answer any question.......

I have a really obscure question. I happened to catch a snatch of a really bad old Elvis Presley movie, called "Spinout", on TV. The bit I saw was of Elvis driving a Cobra round a race track, and then trying out a gold painted canam style mid engined car that looked like a Mclaren M6 with slightly modified bodywork. Does anyone know anything about what that car actually was?

Google came up with some info on the Cobras used in the movie, but nothing on the canam style car. Apparently the race scenes were filmed at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

I attach a photo from the movie of Elvis and a cobra I found. Amazing how ratty the cars looked in period!

Cheers

His facial expression suggests his frustration with putting the driving essentials on the wrong side...

I thought he had a porta-potty behind the seat

Don't know about the canam. Chaparral might be worth an investigation.

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.
