20XE Timing help

Typical Vauxhall 20XE with noisy lifters, I have got fed up eternal clattering waiting for them to pump up, Now this is a early round tooth engine, previously modded engine that came with the car, QED hydraulic cams, and 45s etc
So I have gone and bought a new set of INA lifters, put engine on TDC with a DTI down the bore of No1. cam pulley marks at the top, good to go, removed the cams, changed lifters, etc, reassembled cams, put the nicely polished cam cover back on the engine, ready to set cams to marks that are on the flange of the cam cover..... or should be, looks like the cast belt cover and marks have been removed when polished, Bugger....... panic last night and bought a used cover on EBAY, then this morning it dawned on me are all cam covers the same, with the same timing marks or are there early cover without timing marks, and another way of timing cams with other marks.
Help does anybody know?????

Something different, Very different..............
