RS Turbo engine
Can any body tell me why no one seems to use an Escort RS Turbo engine in their kit cars? Ive been looking into using a 2.0 16v vauxhall or zetec
upto now but after speaking to ykc today they say theres a new sva rule that will stop me getting through by just putting carbs on it. They do sell
an engine management system for a zetec to get it through but this combined with a cat in the exhaust adds upto a lot of money. Can any body suggest
any other options for me to get quite a good powerful engine? The RS turbo seems an obvious choice at first but i cant find anyone else whos done it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

cant see why not,there are cossie turbo,s out there and the cvh block fits a type 9 box,just dont forget your g suite

how much power does the turbo put out......... its a 1.6 right? you see, ive got a 1.8 cvh and if my 4age falls through then ill prob by a 1.6 turbo
and do a hybrid, starting off with jus the 1.8 for SVA.
answer my 1st question and also if its worth it?

The RST engine is 132bhp or thereabouts, and there are plenty of them written off.
I too considered this, but think I will stick with X-flow power until I can afford a cossie lump

im not certain how much power they are exactly but if you want one theres one ending tomorrow on ebay with a spare short engine should go for about
200 quid, the only reason i arent having that one is that it has no ecu

If its any use (probably not, I'm just wanting rid of it!) I have a Renault 5 turbo engine and box in my garage, waiting to slot in and fire up.

As far as I can see, the CVH is another perfect engine option along with the crossflow and pinto. The CVH 1600cc turbo is 132bhp in the RS Turbo (I
think RS Turbo S1 and S2 are the same bhp.) CVH's have been used in Syla Strikers, but I've never heard of them being put in locosts. When
I start my build it'll be 1.6 CVH turbo using Ford Type 9 5 speed 'box. In my view cossies are too expensive especially if you happen to
be 17- 25 like me. CVH turbo's are enough in my opinion for a rear wheel drive summer car being used for maybe a couple of thousand miles a year
for crazy blasts every now and then. I'd like someone to put in a CVH turbo and then tell me how to do it!!!
If it isn't low-cost it isn't locost!

IMHO the rs tubby is a non starter, you would need,
A one off exhaust manifold £££
All old engines will need a new tubby £££
No more power than a dirt cheap 2.0 pinto.

but the CVH is much lighter and doesn't require bonnet mods as does the pinto. standard injection 2000cc pinto has 115bhp as far as i'm
aware. Also, why would you need a new turbo??

They only last about 80000 miles. A pinto with webbers will give 125 bhp unmodded (and no body mods),and to fit the rs injection plenum you would need
to mod the bodywork.

How much for the gearbox? is it in good order?
Locost Xflow 150bhp injected! Sold :-(

Don't go with the flow. Be different!
If you can get hold of a really good engine use it. It will fit without to much modifications.The electrics are not to complicated. Just slot on a
sierra box, engine mounts and a simple exhaust an of you go!! Good luck
