Motorbike carbs on a Zetec and Xflow Engines

I have found a few websites where people have used Suzuki GSXR carbs on their Zetec and XFlow engines. However there is little detail about which exact model of bike the carbs were from and and modifications that were required. Anyone else tried this. Just you can buy a set of 4 Suzuki GSX 1100 Slingshot carbs from the breakers for £100 !!! Also the GSXR 750 RR (1989) used 4 x 40mm carbs. Nice and small too for anyone wanting to save space.

Maybe this is the topic to unite the bike and car engine factions of this group ???

Found a dutch site where a guy had used what I think are Suzuki GSX1100 carbs with his zetec, can't find the site now but pictures attached

motorbike carbs on car engines is something ive been interested in for a while, but still havent managed to find out much. i can tell you that those pictured are not of std gsxr carbs, they are aftermarket keihin FCR flatslide carbs which you will struggle to get for less than 300 quid secondhand. as far as i know very few bikes these days use flatslides as std which is what you want ideally. most bikes now come with CV or constant velocity carbs which are much harder to set up, and basically operate like an old SU, ie a butterfly type throttle and vacume controlled slide. with the flatslides the slide is actually the throttle. there, that about all i know.

No reply here either, I have since managed to find a cheap £150 pair of Dellorto DHLA 45's. Need a good clean and a few new jets (ones in then are too big) but otherwise look good.

based near Rugby in the sticks has all sorts of Lotus spares even offered me a whole running 900 series engine, I declined on basis that spares could prove expensive and I already had a perfectly good 2.0L zetec.

Found some hard evidence of people using bike fueling on a zetec:

Starting from back to front , To utilise the standard coil and thermostat hosing etc I moved the gearbox forward by 5", this involved a modified prop and mount brackets for the gearbox, The gear lever was returned to its original position by the use of a westfield type 9 gear extension which moves the gearstick back by 5 1/4". The clutch was easy in my case, I don't know all of the different variants but I managed to use a standard zetec clutch from a 1.8 escort 130hp and this works fine with the sierra release bearing, this keep the maximum friction plate size possible. Using the standard sierra rubber engine dampers new mounts were fabricated. One of the main problems I encountered was the sump. If you position the engine level with the chassis aligning the propshaft ground clearance isn't a real issue however I did remove about 1/2" from the bottom to give a level bottom. The main issue with the sump was using the standard pinto starter motor as material has to be removed from the side of the sump to allow it to fit but not to much or else the big ends collide, its a bit of a fiddle but worth it. I am using throttle bodies from a 2003 yamaha r6 (38mm, bigger is not better)using the standard r6 injectors which flow around 235cc/min which is plenty for 200bhp, combined with an MBE 941 ECU. Inlet is a problem in a 2b if you stick with the servo assisted brakes, I don't think carbs would fit without modification. The results are amazing.
