Can't help with the balancer but is the aristocat the new project? If so is it the one that was on eBay last week?

You can get them off ebay for less than £40
A good investment if you run multi carbs
I got my 4x bike carbs set 99% by using some mig wire as a feeler underneath the butterflys
Set them both to just touch ( balanced) then start and adjust equaly to set idle

I've always used a variation of this idea on my carbs;
