Thermostat Solutions anyone?
Hi People.
I've got a Sierra Pinto engine in my locost and am in need of a thermostat solution for the fan.
I don't want to buy one of those which fits into the hose because I think it's an expensive option and is a nightmare to fit and get
sealed properly (been there done that)
Can anyone recommend one that is threaded? or an alternative solution for the pinto. I've got a MK 5 cortina radiator fitted and there's
no where for one to fit on that.

Vince,
In the Which Kit build series on the MK Indy it showed a thermostatic sensor which fitted between the radiator fins. I've never seen one of
these in any of the catalogues but presumably they do exist.

Thanks guys. I could do with just the middle bit and can fabricate my own brackets etc. Like you say Mookaloid, not exactly locost.
I just wish I knew which car to get a threaded one from?
Ideas anyone. Thermal switch that is threaded? Goes short circuit when the engine temp gets to say 95 or so?

They are both threaded but I don't know the thread off the top of my head, however the Micra is 16mm across flats, Polo is 29mm across flats.

Hi Vince
I know you didn't want an "in the hose job" but it is threaded.
M14 x 1.5 Fits a Volvo £9.38 +vat
On at 89 deg - off at 86 deg
Any help ?

The Escort had a threaded fan switch (As did fiesta). Just pop into your local motorfactors and ask for one.
Alternatively, go to somewhere like www.burtonpower.com..under Instrument Accessories you'll find a few Fan Temperature switches (and pics)

i used a peice of stainless tube,drilled a hole and araldited a metro switch in,still working after 3 years

yep, or just mig a piece of stainless to the side of the tube with an appropriate thread in it.

Found this in my 'useful info' email folder :-
"Look at the older around (1990 vintage) Saab 900 upper rad hose they have a
very nice aluminum segment that is inline with the rad hose. It has a very
nice screw in electric thermostat switch. It is a very clean installation
that works very well. You can mount it in the upper or lower rad hose and the
part can be had cheep at many salvage yards. Different temp thermostats can
be bought to suit any need."
