CVH

Does anybody have experince with using the CVH from a MK5/Mk6 Escort?

At http://www.sylva.co.uk/cvh.html there are some issues listed. "The CVH does not have an engine mount on the near-side." and "The standard CVH clutch pack is not suitable for in-line operation.".

CVH from Sierra

The problem is that it doesn't fullfill the emissions requirements (see the thread "Clean engine" so that's why I need the engine from a newer car.

Good question. Perhaps the engines was made in different configurations since the Sierra is a larger car than the Escort. Perhaps it's just that I misunderstood something.

The requirements are lambda probe, coal canniser and cat.

No CVH Sierra in Sweden

Ok, I got a reply at the swedish Locost forum and the Sierra was never sold with CVH in Sweden.

So it looks like the best choise is either the tuned down Pinto from the 1988-89 Sierra or just take the 7000 SEK penalty fee.

£450 odd I believe. Personally, I think I'd be tempted to go the zetec route. At least that £450 will be going towards you rather just straight into the tax man's pocket. Second hand throttle bodies crop up on ebay and the likeness, you could presumably use a megasquirt for the ecu... you get the picture.

About £450. Perhaps not that much, but since a local scrapper charges 1500 SEK (about 100 GBP) for any engine regardless of donor it feels like it's a cost that could be avoided.

I agree with kingr, rather than throw the money away, invest it in a better engine.

Andrew.

Since my strongest candidate is the MK Indy the easiest would probably be to use a Pinto from the 1988-89 Sierra.

Since I'm not very experienced in auto mechanics I think it would probably be best to not try something untested.

This may be a silly question but if you are looking to build a MK Indy then wouldn't buying a complete sierra (with pinto) give you all the parts you need to build the car?
Also you may be able to buy a rusted out sierra for the 1500SEK that the scrappy would charge you for the engine by itself. (possibly!)

The problem is that the engine is in 89-90 Sierras and they aren't quite rusted out yet and 15000 SEK seems to be the general price level. So a rusted out, older Sierra with a newer engine may work.
