Engine swap post IVA.

If I get my car IVA'd with an old ford DOHC it won't need a cat etc.

If I then fit a zetec that is newer, but still 2.0 litre, will the annual MOT still be OK without cat etc.. Presumably I just send the engine change off to DVLA??

Yes, emission tests for MOTwill remain as tested at IVA whatever you put in later. You just have to notify DVLA of the engine change. They might ask for an report to prove it's been done from a garage or MOT station.

I just provide new engine numbers on the V5 and forward.

Not had a query back yet.

Emissions remain as SVA so building with an old engine is preferred.

You can just provide a letter from Ford Technical confirming the details of the engine, age, cc etc and then DVLA will change it. MOT stays the same as the engine that was SVA/IVA'd.

The only reason I mentioned that was sometimes DVLA have asked for that as proof the engine was actually in the car. Usually when it's been a change to a smaller engine and therefore tax class, so it's probably not relevant in this case... but you never know with DVLA.

Built mine in 92, 1300 x-flow from a mk2 Escort. Since then its been 1660 x-flow, 1760 x-flow, 1860 x-flow, 2 litre silvertop zetec x 2 and now 2 litre blacktop zetec. Still has the 1300 Escort engine number on the V5 and is registered as an 1800. Never got round to sorting it and the car still works OK.

Good luck telling the DVLA you've changed the engine
