All weather Track Alternative
HI Guys,
My car goes up for sale so i can put down a house deposit after christmas, however in the spring I'd like to look at getting a cheapish toy for
the track.
I'm thinking Clio 172 Cup... purely due to it being cheap to run and 'relaible' engine wise...
Very tempted to put boddies on it and a cam to take it over 200bhp and rip everything out of it.
RWD seems pricey to get quick, any kinda heavy unless i go down the elise route.
4WD is pricey, lots to go wrong and consumables would be pretty high.
Jap stuff will need some tuning to get big power and German gets very expensive.
What are your thoughts?
Any other alternatives?
I like the idea of all weather track days, not having to worry about the time of year. Tempted by a Ring trip as well.

just sold my 7 im goint to put a 2.0 zetec in a ka and strip it out. bolts to the ka box just have to buy mount what is bolt on from

Clio 172 Cup sounds fun, would be pretty good trackcar i would of thought all stripped out and a cam etc..
But i would say go down the elise route if you can! Pretty Reliable and some serious fun for track and road!
Just my thoughts on it

How about a 200sx? Plenty of grunt, great handling as standard, real wheel drive, and bundles of tuning potential. Then when you get bored, use it to
build a Locost!

Ive said it before,but you can't go far wrong with a clio 172,quick little track cars,managed to lap Cadwell in mine 1st time out in 1minute
51seconds,going to try and knock a couple of seconds off that next time out,with a few suspension adjustments,not as fast as a BEC,but about on par
with a locost race car round cadwell,but would be quicker round the faster circuits,striped out they weigh around 900kgs,decat and a induction
kit,will see over 200bhp per ton,and pick them up for £1500,it even fits on the same trailer I used for the Indy,as its almost the same wheel base and
track

The two S14A cars I've driven must have been knackered then, I though they both felt like boats, and that's stepping out of an MR2 Turbo
which didn't exactly have the greatest handling ever.

i was looking at a 106 rally other day on a 98 99 plate striped out with a 106 gti 16valve lump in there isnt much catching one round a track 16 valve
engine is quite tune able the heads are quite restrictive from standard so respond well from head work and some cams.
some people dream of sucsess, others just get on and do it !!

I had a 1300 106 Rallye was so much fun on the track, when i fitted a 1600 16v motor it was so much better not much would keep up with that upto about
100mph on track ran out of steam abit after that though

Thanks for the replies, food for thought for next year!
Has anyone played in an S2000? They seem silly cheap at the mo, even for UK ones.
Guess it would work for the Ring trips and possibly a venture to Le Mans... foreign driving roads. (Has room for a bag i suppose)
And then for about £3k i could get it supercharged by Rotrex? seems to make its Crank HP at the wheels then!
Ordered the bits to fix the kit car today tho! Wooo

i had a play with an s2000 on track in my rx7 and i was very impressed for a standard car
if you start looking at s2000 and superchargin it and then all the mods that WILL need, its no longer Locost
