idle speed when cold

My pinto will not rev steadily when cold. It hunts up and down until its warmed up for 5 minutes or so. What is the cause.
(Standard pinto efi injection set up)

my 205 does that too and pretty much did it from the factory, sure it isnt just a symptom of an old efi system?

it's the idle speed control valve, the cylindrical object on the engine side of the throttle butterfly. Unbolt it and douse it with meths or similar to un-gunk it, lightly lubricate and refit.

I must add one looks like a right cock when at a pedestrian crossing one's engine starts revving, causing those on the crossing to scatter for their lives. I nearly died of embarrasement.

Clean the idle control valve and the throttle butterfly/housing with carb cleaner.
