Abingdon airfield track days

Anyone been to one? I'm thinking of going in September and was wondering if they're any good. The track layout looks OK but what is the surface like?

Did the last one and it was a fantastic day out. Main runway is tarmac and from memory the taxiway were concrete block but then again I was so busy concentrating and going balls out fast!!

Did it on 888s and pretty much no wear off them.

Very relaxed bunch, I also went to the last one, don't expect to go driving straight away, didn't really get going until 10:30, but open pitlane means plenty of time on track.

The less I worked, the more i liked it.

I've booked for the 25th of September. Anyone else going? I'll be the one in the Cappuccino.

I've just come back from abingdon and have had a really good day. We had blue skies and sunshine all day and plenty of track time. The cappuccino was probably the slowest car there but there were a 2 or 3 slower drivers which put a nice shine on the day. My favorite comment came from the elise drivers who said "You're the cappuccino guy! Blimey, you were giving it some!" "It was pretty much on 3 wheels on that corner." I've learned to love the car too. It rolls, especially in the chicanes but you've just got to let it. It never lets go of the road even though it feels a bit light going through upright between the two apexed and by lunch time I'd built up enough confidence in it to do the same 60 MPH though the 3 chicanes as everyone else.

There was plenty of nice machinery there; A DB9, a Nissan GTR, an Audi R8 plus all the usual evos and a lot of Westfields. The circuit layout has lots of corners, all the long or fast ones being left handers as it is anti clockwise, 3 coned chicanes but no really long straights, which suits cars who gain their performance from light weight rather than high power. Good for Sevens as well as cappuccinos.

The only niggle for the day was one of the marshals who, whenever he saw my car, got out of his seat and waved his blue flag at me, even if there were no other cars behind, even just after I'd make a spectacular overtake of a modified Saxo right in front of him. Knob. A good little circuit though.
