Cleaning oil spill

What do people use to clean up oil spills on the garage floor . I spilt oil from the filter on the nice clean concrete floor and would like to try and clean up the mess.

don't think you need to hire polish people to clean up an oil spill...

cat litter works well for me.

i also have a carpet in the garage, so i just cut the section out and replace with another from the scrap heap

Kitty litter is ok as long as you don't try to use the pine wood based stuff, "Fullers earth" is what you need. However, cement is a lot more effective IME.

I used some sharp sand (hand it to hand in the garage). Soaked up the oil nicely. Though I suspect cement is best as that's what they use on race tracks...

If you paint your garage floor first then it pretty much just wipes up with old rags and doesn't soak in.

Use some washing detergent neat to get rid of the stain after you clean up if you are bothered about it. Scrub it in then rinse it off but it will fade eventually or get more added to it.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Spred kitty litter over the stain and rub over with a brick.

It grinds the litter and absords the oil.
