cheapest place to buy silicone hose?
Where's the best/cheapest place to get some? Mating my zx12 engine to the polo rad is going to require 4 90deg bends/ 2 t-pieces/6 hose joints,
2.5 m of straights
So need to find somewhere cheap!

There is a reason that car manufacturers use rubber hoses, its cheap and last years for water cooling, the only place you really need silicon on
turbo/intercooling pipework, and then only where its going to get really hot or massive boost.
The locost way is to plumb in ali, pop down to B&Q and get a kinked TV aerial pole and cut out the bends and straights or use central heating
copper tube, my choice as I had so old 1" stuff lying around.
You will need to put a bead in the ali, see here link, for copper just solder on
olives.

Go down to the local heavy truck center or possibly a full service hydraulic shop and ask for silicone coolant hose. It comes in 3' lengths for
about $8 a foot (~£4).
A truck parts place (or breakers) will get you preformed ali elbows and the nice t-bolt clamps that don't pinch the hose like a worm gear clamp
can as well.
It's not "pretty & shiny" like samco motorsport stuff but it's just as tough.

Cheepest place i found was www.siliconehoses.com use ali tube for the straight runs.
Copper pipe T pieces are also good to use.
I used.....
Silicone - 3 x 90's, 3 x 45's a length of straight offcut for joining (got cheep of LB), a straight reducer (38-25).
Ali tube for straight and a Copper T piece
Wasn't cheep cheep over all but the cheepest i could have done it in silicone and keeps it all neat & tidy.

I had a long chat with the chap from Viper Performance at Stoneleigh. Some silicone hoses are cheaply made in China.
I got mine from Viper Performance.
http://www.viperperformance.co.uk/
They have an extra layer inside (The black layer)
Cheapest is not always the best.
I also agree that you can use standard hosing which is cheap and then change to silicone hose later.
It took me 3 years to get all my engine bay silicone hosed. It also cost over £100.
Best thing is to start with std hose, and spend the money where its needed.
Of course if you have a bottomless pit of money, go for the silicone straight off.
I certainly have no complaints about Viper performance hoses (No commercial connection, or friend of etc etc with the company either)
I would also use quality clamps on the pipes. Make sure the joining pipe has a raised portion to prevent the hoses / clips coming off when under
pressure.
ie use good parts and do the job properly. That makes for a good all round job, and a more reliable car.
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

The only thing I would say with auto performance is be a bit careful. I was trying to buy a 28mm hose joiner off them and first they sent me a
non-standard 28mm joiner (which was 27.5mm so leaked) and then when I asked for a 30mm flanged joiner (IE next size up) they sent me a 32mm unflanged
joiner.....
Also- they advertise under quite a few names on Ebay....
I ended up using copper pipe and normal rubber hose.

Top tip.... if you cant get the tubes swaged or if you cant use olives with copper pipe....then...
on the alloy tube, put 2 (or more) pop rivets in to the pipe at even intervals round the diameter of the tube, these will give the hose clips
something to grip against as the pressure builds.
