Video Camera for car?
Now I've got a lovely heavy duty rollbar clamp, I need a camera.
Whilst many use the bullet cams attached to a recorder, or camcorder, is there any reason why I cant put one of the smaller video cameras directly on
the rollbar?
If not what sort should I look out for on the bay?
Any advice welcomed, locost of course

I just use my digital camera mounted on the roll bar, and for video it works fine. The only problem is the sound as the mic is built into the
camera.
If I was to buy a different setup I'd want something with a remote mic.

Hi
The current rage is for the GO PRO WIDE. The wide gives a 170 field of view.
Brilliant bit of kit and quite small also comes with its own water proof housing records direct onto a SD card.
Here's a link to some footage from the TRC magazine. Although i think they have lost some of the quality when uploading it onto YouTube as the
footage from my own on the computer is far better.

Ps £145 gets a WIDE kit which is a tad more than the STD kit.

i forget how much video it records, 1hour? maybe 2?
transfer to PC with USB, recharge on USB, 2gb storage (i think there is another one that has removable cards too) standard size tripod type mounting
on the bottom, you can get cases on ebay too, so mount on roll bar in a case to keep the bugs out, done

The Go Pro looks really good - similar to my digital camera in terms of video, but the sound seems much better. Does it have an internal mic?
And it won't stop working for a week when it get rained on like mine did!

Ive a gopro wide and im testing it tomorrow on the front of my kart so ill report back, the unit has a internal mic, but the hole unit sites in a
air/water tight case, you can adjust the sound record level to reduce vibration/wind noise.

I bought an Oregon Scientific ATC5K camera. £140 off eBay with a 4 gig memory card

Thanks guys.
Been out and tried my normal digital camera today, it actually worked quite well.
Is there any reason not to use a small conventional video camera SD memory, apart from the weatherproof ness of the mentioned GOPRO units?

I've used my digital camera for a couple of trackdays now. It worked really well, except for the rain.
You might be limited on how long it will record for - depends on the camera - mine will record until the sd card is full or the battery is flat.

Tried my gopro last weekend and yesterday karting, works great, i had mounted it on the front of the kart and there is really bad vibration on a kart
and it was still ok. I was going to mount it on my helmet but the weather was pamnt yesterday and i spent most of the time sliding and spinning and
never bothered with the camera.
track day karting you tubes quality aint all that when on full screen
i was shattered after chasing the 10 year old 7 stone whippet in front of me.
