Zetec cams timing belt tension(silvertop)

OK so if i havnt got the spring to pre tension the cam belt tensioner is their an idiots guide ?

tension it then turn the egine over by hand through 360 degrees, the longest section of belt should twist through 90 degrees any less its too tight any more too slack. the odd degree doesnt really matter.

Cheers thanks for that, longest run on belt from exhaust cam pulley to crank does twist 90 degs with a little effort.

I'll put the rest of the bits back on in the week then wait for a brave moment and turn the key

that method hs never let me down, all the best, you did take the engne through 360 before tryig didnt u

Yep i turned it over 360 and made sure the timing marks and cams still aligned.

New tension spring and peg should only be a few pence from Ford , hole is already tapped for the peg

...and it's 2 full turns to get the timing marks to line up again and a 4stroke.
