Sump Shortening --- again

Seeing the thread by KEWTECH regarding sump depth and clearance just reminded me of a question I meant to ask.

Having already shortened my sump, and welded the thing up. I realised that the best way to get the pickup pipe the right length is to do it BEFORE you weld on the base. DOH!

Anybody got any bright ideas as to the best way to check the amount of pipe I need to remove?

And removing the base is not an option, it was a PITA to seal!

Pickup pipe off, loads of kiddies plastercine in a poly bag and squish, this is no more that an idea its not tried and tested in anyway and could possibly be the shitest idea yet to appear on LCB!

Cheers

Rich

But at least it's an idea Rich

I did think it's just a case of taking off the same amount as I took off the sump, but I am just a little worried about having it too close or too far away as I've heard all sorts of horror stories about oil starvation etc

But I guess I'm short on options

Put the pipe on, rest the sump on top. Measure the gap from the sump to the block. Cut this measurement off plus enough to clear the pipe/sump

I did as Nitram described above - but then confirmed it was correct by assembling everything and checking the clearance with plastercine - about 5mm from memory in my 4AGE
