Yep ignore the pip and saw to get it running in limp home mode.

2,4 and 11 just aren't used at all. Mine works fine without them anyway

for the shield you need to use something like microphone cable, where you get 2 cables inside, and a braided shield round the outside

its a big photo i borrowed of the internet, so i'll just put the link up.

like this

the edis plug is the same one used for the 4, 6, and 8 cylinder systems. you'll notice from the other 2 diagrams, things move around a little. i think 2 is something to do with a tacho.

don't worry about pip and saw yet, like craig says. these are for the megajolt, but just get running on the basic set up first

ahh ok i see, will the VR sensor need the shield just to get it running? or will i be fine without it too start with?

I assume the connector i have with about 150mm of cable cut off from the original will be shielded?

Its also worth noteing that on the screened/shielded cable you should only connect the screen to grounnd at one end only, not both ends

i got mine running without shielded cable, so will be just fine.
the shield keeps interfernce out, so if you tried running like that all the time it might be a bit rough. but fine for firing up

The more you do now the less you will have to upgrade later.

wire it as though its done and run the pip and saw to where you will mount the Mjl and tape the end up to stop it touching anything.

If you just lash it up you could short the edis out,

How do you mean? At one end of the shielding? So theres only one connection to the earth?

yes. if you earth at both ends of the cable it can cause a lot of interference, so only earth at one end. and preferable the same point for both pip/saw and crank sensor cables
