Tyre Pressure

I am running 205/40 x 17 wheels and am wondering what tyre pressure others are using for the road.

I know they're not the same but I've got 205/55/R15s, ~600kg weight with driver, and my tyres are around 16psi.

It's pretty simple to roughly work out a good starting point: Total weight(lbs) / 4 / tyre contact patch (square inches). So mine is ~600kg = 1320lbs. 1320/4 = 330lbs/corner (assuming 50/50 weight distribution!)
I parked my tyres on a clean sheet of A4 and measured the approximate contact patch - around 5" x 4". 330lbs/20sqin = 16.5psi.

Or.... start with around 15-18psi and adjust to suit your car and your driving

Ed.

205/40/17 - depending on tyre sidewall stiffness - try 17psi +/- 2psi

Not a problem. I'm an Aussie living in Canada so, although I may spell badly, I am used to taking the mikey. But we can still beat you in cricket
