Fuel proof transparent plastic

Hi there,

Does anyone know which plastics are fuel proof and also transparent? Many of them craze when in contact with fuel.

I am putting on secondary injectors in the airbox, and I want to see what they are doing. Its not for the bling, but to avoid the bang.

I'd prefer not to use glass, as if it broke it would get sucked into the inlet, with unfavourable consequences.

Thanks,

Matt

If the worst comes to the worst you could use clear / optical epoxy (epoxy resins are generally fuel proof) and "cast" a nice little sheet of that to use as a window.

Only trouble will be finding out if it's definately fuel proof other than by trying it. I doubt the optical / casting epoxy manafactuers will have thought of anyone using it for this...

I did a search for 'chemical resistance of polycarbonate' and came up with this detailed information

http://www.gallinausa.com/pdfs/polycarb.chemical.resistance.pdf

You could repeat the exercise for other possible plastics.

Here's a big chart of plastic vs chemical compatibility.

thanks chaps,

FEP Fluoropolymer film seems to be the closest that I can get. I'll order some and see what its like.

Most others are no good.

I got loads of clear cast acrylic here at work, will try it with some petrol if you want?

I clean the surface with cellulose thinners before I spray it, but no idea what constant immersion will do to it.

Looking at the table "Acrylic PMMA" does seem to have a "G" for good against it.

I don't know why I didn't think of that first.

Loads of it hanging around here too.

dohhh, its this hot weather addling my brain.
