Nice bullet proof old motors. But air/oil cooled.

I'm putting one in. They are very tuneable, used by loads of dragsters.

I agree a quality engine and very tunable. I remember the hayday of that motor all sorts of bolt ons (are they all still available?). Big blocks IRC 1427 and above loadsa people turbo'd them too.

I assume if you use one of these you have to pay close attention to cooling.

Still could be a bargain

Engine has been relisted, same price.
Great engines and not as fussy with cooling as you'd imagine due to decreased tolerances on the internals.

mmm interesting, it just brought to mind (for a 2 beer moment) old Brit bikes with square fours and the back two pots were prone to overheating (causing oil leaks). Mounting an air-cooled straight four longitudinally brought up the image in my mind of a similar problem esp. confined under a bonnet. So apparently no problem then?

Aerial Square 4 1000cc ?
God, my Dad still goes on about one he had years ago.
" It'd pull a caravan that...and you could set off in second"
Yeah, great Dad, but why would you want to pull a caravan with a bike? And why set off in second gear, unless he just couldn't get any traction because of the 16ft - 4berth he was towing.

Its amazing how you only remember the good things about the past isnt it? People do seem to have fond memories of old brit bikes and there are a few that I do like (Vincent black lightning 150mph in the early fifties). But oil leaks and Jap bikes lack of leaks killed most firms off.
