summer holiday suggestions

Looks like I've got to pull my finger out this year if I'm going to go away.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap euro getaway. 3-5 lads but all fairly sensible. A beach would be nice but other things taken into consideration too.

I've started to look at budapest. Croatia is high on the list but don't really know anything about the place/where to go etc.

Looking at £400/500 each max end of august time..

Cheers everyone.

Come to Edinburgh for the Festival. The best combination of culture and partying you could hope for.

Croatia is lovely, I go every year as SWMBO hails from there.

I'm driving down this year and the road trip is all part of the fun.

I can give advice on where to go but you'll have to tell me what type of holiday you want.

Weather in August will be hot and very sunny. Prices are much cheaper than the UK but the resorts are always more expensive than going inland.

Pula is beautiful (well the whole of Istria) with lots to see and do. Great resturants and bars and loads of Roman ruins. The beach at Umag is fantastic.

Split is popular, nice beaches, more nightlife and plenty of places to visit. Plitvice is worth a day trip.

Islands - Well worth a visit. KrK, Rab and Pag are all very nice.

Dubrovnik is the Jewel of the Adriatic. Beautiful and lots of history. Not sure what the beaches are like.

Cheers worzey, sounds like youre the man.

A perfect holiday would probably involve sun and cold beers.

Clubbing isn't even a consideration but late opening bars are a must. I normally do city breaks (done most of the "cool" cities in Europe) so a beach break is probably what I'm after. Having a few things to see in the vicinity could help to stop things getting a bit boring.

How easy is it to get around within croatia? I'm considering looking into getting a villa/apartment I think, where do you normally stay? Do I need to learn the native tongue to get by?

English is widely spoken in Croatia so the language won't be a problem. Learning some phrases will make you popular.

The beer is cheap and plentiful and the women are amoungst the most beautiful in the world (my wife made me say that last bit). You'll get lots of sun.

Bars stay open very late, some stay open until the last person leaves. Karlovacko is the beer to go for

You can find villas for hire on the Internet or go with a package. I've got family in Croatia who take care of me so I can't really advise here.

My top recommendation is Pula/Rovinj but you'll need to travel to Umag for a nice sandy beach.

I also think the scenery and beaches around Zadar are fairly good.

Good luck and have a great holiday!
