RV8 Engine Age?

Any online resource or knowledgeable peeps on here tell me how I can determine the age of my newly acquired Rover V8?

I know its a good age as its a 3.5 with twin Zenith carbs, apart from that it looks in really good condition and the last owner reckons it came out of a left hooker that had spent its days in Saudi. That would explain the sand on it

Oh, and where is the engine number located?

First of a long series of V8 questions, I thank you...

Ta,
Steve

Zeniths, not Strombergs...

Steve,

For proof of engine age a few on here contacted:

British Motor Industry Heritage Trust
Heritage Motor Centre,
Banbury Road,
Gaydon,
Warwickshire, CV35 0BJ

Chap's name is Richard Bacchus. There is a fee, but give them a call on 01926 641188 to see how much it is now. The letter they send will be copied by SVA man and I think VOSA, so keep it safe!

Engine numbers -

found on the top of the block just where the heads join, near the dip stick I think. on the side between exhausts 2 and 3

u2u me with e-mail address and I'll send you doc.

oh, and to start off:

The engine number and compression ratio are stamped on the left side of the block in between the centre two spark plugs , near the dipstick. On earlier models the engine number is stamped on horizontal flat surface at the rear of the left-hand cylinder bank

damn, you gotta be quick on here!!

However mine has a F on the end not A or B.

Anyone know what power it should have as standard?

Here it is in its intended home in the front of my 4x4 Jago....

Thanks,
Steve

If its been yanked out of a landrover which is lightly then it will have a low profile cam and push out mabe 100bhp if the carb restrictions are still in....

I would look for a 9.35 comp one personally anyway first thing to do is pull off the carbs, if restrictors are fitted pull them out and while carbs are off solder up the poppet valves on the throttle plates (Cut them off, the carefully float some solder over the small holes, not need to strip the carbs to do this) then you will free up another 25 horses!

Regards Mark
