Subaru impreza engine and gearbox..
Not having a full understanding of how it all works, my question is, can i fit the engine and gear box from an impreza into my car but make it only
rear wheel drive?

No, its too wide to fit in even a +4 chassis.....

Thats a shame. Been offered a whole car for a very good price and was going to strip it out

You could fit it in the rear off a middy, weld up the centre diff and just use the driveshafts (transaxle setup)

IIRC you don't need to weld up the diff, just remove the transfer!

a subaru does not have a transfer box

Aren't a lot of 'lesser' Imprezas - 1.6 pauper spec etc - 2WD anyway? i.e. isn't there a production 2WD box that will just
bolt on?

!st pic shows the broken input shaft....which has now been upgraded to a two piece unit...

looking at the inside of gear boxes hurts my head.

If the box above is at the strip down stage, it normally hurts the wallet...!

Mmmmm gears.
So I guess that gearbox layshaft/output shaft must be hollow, the centre diff goes on the back, then drives through the hollow shaft to that front
diff? Am I right am I right
