I reckon it's about the money at that - given:

a) It's rusty
b) No mileage specified a bit wierd eh?
c) It's the saloon - softer suspension etc.

If it's just for a donor and you don't want to drive it, I'd be more tempted by this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-M3-3-2-e46-ENGINE-GEARBOX-ECU-/140449610088?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20b372f968#ht_970wt_1345 />
Low milage too.

Engines from breakers are ALWAYS low mileage. I guess they reckon there is no way you can find out either way, and even if you did find out it came from a 120,00 mile car they would just say 'sorry, we made a mistake'

Wonder how much the surcharge is for not returning your scrap engine? and if no engine to return then warranty is void, seems a bit harsh.

Why would they want the scrap engine, for scrap? Or are they planning to 'rebuild' it?

You'll need the dash ecu/ews/key, the whole shebang or it just wont run. Theres a few guys in the states whove got round all that but it aint cheap. IIRC its all to do with the canBUS system used......
