MK4 Astra hazards flashing with no key

Hello.
My dads car is having a bit of an issue at th mo.
When the ignition is off or an the first click of the key, the hazards are flashing. When on the second click and with the engine running the are off. They flash a little faster than they should.

With ign on, they work fine, hazards and indicators work as they should.

Alarm works fine.

It's not the flasher relay.

Any ideas please? I'm relutant to let it go to the dealers for diagnostics, but it's looking like the only option. The net turns up people who never seem to finish their threads so so far I haven't found any answers.

Thanks for any help.

I asume from your post that you've tried a new relay. It was common on those for the hazard switch to fail, giving all sorts of wierd symptoms. Difficult to test and easier to just fit one.

I've tried a new relay.

Removed the hazard switch and the problem still persists.

What was throwing me is the increas in speed, and the normal function of everthing with the igntion on.

It's turned out to be something to do woth the central locking control unit. Haven't had chance to look any more into it yet but at least i'm on the right track.
