Air filter fitting & options

Hi,

I've got a Bogg Bros inlet manifold with some GSXR600 TBs and have been considering which type of air filter to go for. I like the look of the sausage filters which poke through the side of the bonnet but I'm not sure if there is enough space to actually fit one on my build. I've made up a cardboard template based on the ITG JC40 filter sizes just see how much space I've got which now appears to be very little around the nearest TB to the nosecone.

I could try and get the manifold modified to angle the TBs upwards a bit more to give more space or maybe go for the individual sock type filters instead. I just wondered if anyone else has had a space issue like this and what the options might be?

Something else I noticed after taking the photos just now is that my engine is angled down towards the front. Is this normal for a zetec in an Indy?

Cheers,

Lee

its not 100% necessary for the trumpets to be in the centre line of the back plate, if you buy a blank plate can drill them lower down, i had simular issue to this in my zetec fiesta and had to fit mine really close to the bottom with a box filter, i was worried might been restrictive but made 173bhp. could take picture tomorrow if of use long as snow stopped!!

Thanks Will

Drilling the backplate holes lower down might just give me enough clearance so I'll check with another template tomorrow

Thanks again, Lee

Hi, there are some dimensions on the ITG website. JC40 pdf was the one I've been looking at.

cheers,

Lee

I have exactly the same problem, however I'd bought the JC40 filter first! I found that it is possible but the filter won't be centred around the TBs. I've also go to do a master brake cylinder swap to make up enough room.
U2U me and I'll stick some pic's up. I would do it now but I'm just about to leave for work...

Im not convinced your engine should be dipping towards the front. Can you shim your engine mounts to bring it level? Might give you more clearance t the front of your filter.

I stock blank base plates to suit the px600 filters, £14.99+pp if you need one.

Mine has the same sort of angle, from memory the engine doesn't look like it's dipping so I assumed it was the chassis but I'm going to check...

Would be good to check to as your prop running angles need to be correct; if you don't know what I mean u2u I will send you a link.

I'm using the caterham gearbox mount on mine which is slightly taller than the standard sierra mount. However, I've put a plate between the chassis on mine to try and compensate for the differences in gearbox mounts.

I'm using the engine mounts which came with the kit and I could shim them to raise the engine by about another inch before it starts to touch the inside of the nose cone.

Info on prop angles would be great. Mine is at an angle, slightly higher at the front than the back (I'm not sure what this means though, I think I'd read somewhere that a slight angle is better than no angle)

Thanks,

Lee

Right I checked and the engine is lower at the front as shown here: http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/IMG_0229%201.JPG
and
http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/IMG_0225%201.JPG The car is a Tiger Supercat so I don't know if this is by design or not. It was built by a reputable builder and has had this angle since I bought the car....
