Missed a gear
My car is fitted with a 5 speed Yamaha FJR1300. Last Sunday I did a clutchless change from 4th to 5th and somehow messed it up. The gearbox sounded
like there was a bag of spanners in there, nothing like a missed shift from 1st to 2nd. I quickly coasted to a stop and gingerly tested all the gears
assuming the worst. To my surprise everything is still working.
Should I be concerned? Pull the pan and look for metal bits? What could have happened? It was an almighty clatter........

False neutral caused by getting your timing out. Done it a couple of times and yes it sounds horendous. Not the best thing for the box but sounds like
you go away with it. I've done several thousand trouble free miles since I did it last.

Yep, I hate it when it happens!
On 919 blades it seems to be the precursor to gearbox issues, I hope its not on the ZX12!

I've done it a few times. The fun bit is trying to guess what revs the engine should be doing so when you try again to engage gear (without
stopping) it doesn't bang quite so aggressively

Always try to remember when you
get stuck between gears try to select the next higher gear, so if you get stuck between 3rd and 4th for example try to change up into 4th rather than
down into 3rd.

If it happens I tend to clutch in and go up a gear. When I first got the car ... trying to be easy on the box I was actually doing the opposite
because I was taking too long to shift. It shifts a hell of a lot sweeter the quicker you get off the gas and onto the paddle. Learning curve I guess.

Interesting, I haven't had this yet.

I've had it once where I put the clutch in and accidentally changed up instead of down (getting used to sequential...). Must have realised what
I was doing and just pushed it out of one gear and not completely into the next.

Used to happen to me on my old Z1000.
The noise is the dog on cog not engaged properly and it rattles from side to side.
