SWMBO....Really?

Got bought the Haynes 'Kit Car Manual' for christmas and have been flicking through and having a read.

Came accross the bit where the AUthor is giving advice on sweet talking the other half.

Now, when it comes to my Wife it's quite simple - I am not allowed a Motorbike (which isn't actually a bad idea).

Everything else happens as long as I can afford it and any time can be spent unless we have something mutually planned.

Apart from those, I just do whatever I want - who is she to tell me what to do?!

I don't see why the other half could be that much trouble.

Anyone else have issues?

It's control thing and a confidence issue, usually.
In my case, I did not marry her, it's my house, our finances are separate.
Yes there are some issues here and there, I would like to move and buy a house with a massive garage but that ain't going to happen so rent a barn with 2 good mates where we build and modify our cars.
All in all not a bad set up

Just the opposite here, we have shared finances and interests, although she rarely visits my workshop, she loves going out in the car, always comes to track days and often encourages me to upgrade parts when I'm working on it. She's brilliant and I love her, the wifes OK too.

Mine is very supportive of my interest in cars.

When we built the Cobra I was working at the time so we agreed that from 17:00 to 19:00 every weekday we would work on the car which the two of us did, but weekends were for us time and sailing.

All worked out fine.

When I started the Locost I was retired, so agreement was that I could work on it every weekday morning but weekends were our together time. I was more than happy with this arrangement as together time is as important to me as her. Unfortunately now that consulting work takes up all my time Locost hasn't been touched for 2 years - but then I do have the Cobra for my performance rush.

Me and my wife are a great team. We talk most things through and have no aurguments. She agreed to let me spend the money on the car as long as she did not have to pay anything for it. It has effected our money though becasue now she has to pay for all home improvments. Due to this I said that I would put the labour in to fit what ever we brought. We split monies needed for holidays.

She loves having the car and spends many a summer day with me driving in the country side.

Overall I think that everybody here must have a good partnership with their other halfs otherwise we would not be doing what we are doing.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!
