MK Indy Front cycle wings - How to attach without showing the screw heads

Hi Everyone.

I thought it might be nice to explain to people how to attach the MK supplied cycle wings and not show any bolts.

Unfortunately I have no idea how they have done this other than getting the fibreglass kit out.

(I know its probably been mentioned but I've been searching and can't find anything helpful.)

Can anyone please explain the way to do it?

If you want to remove them, you will need to screw/bolt them on.

Rough up metal and inside of the wings with coarse sandpaper. Stick on with a bead of PU flex. When it has gone off back up with a couple of layers of fibreglass matt. The cleanest was is to wet out the glass on a piece of tin foil before stippling into place upside down, otherwise the resin runs down onto your hands. Did mine this way and they haven't fallen off yet. Bonus is that you don't end up with screw holes in the fibreglass which weaken the wing and could crack.

If sikaflex scrub the fibre glass with sand paper to get a good hold

If you don't want bolt heads showing but still want to be able to remove the wings, fibreglass or glue 4 bigHead fasteners to the inside of the wings.

most Dax ones are stuck on with Würth (more or less the same as Sikaflex, its just the one that they sell with the kits)

as above, you need to key the surfaces and so on, but I've seen pics of cars that have had a bump thats shattered the wing - but the glue was still holding what was left to the stays - so it can't be that bad
(of course it will be a PITA when you want to take them off...)

You could get some threaded bar and tap a piece of steel plate scew the bar in then weld the threded bar in then fibreglass the plates on to the underside of your wheelarches then you can just put the put the threded bar through holes in the wingstay and run a nut down.

I used Wurth black adhesive, same used to secure side panels.

I used sikaflex on mine and put in 4 rivets to hold the wings in place during setting (the wings came in the wrong colour to what I ordered so were going to get resprayed). I used rivets as I just couldn't get the wings to sit cleanly on the stays. I think G clamps should work if you protected the wings well enough.

I the end I kept the rivets in place, skimmed with filler, then resprayed using a high build primer then the final colour. It worked quite well given that I spent naff all on paint and was using it as a learning exercise. If I do respray again, I'll drill out the rivets and fill the holes for a neater job.

I am going to go down road of 4 big heads.
Stainless steel and approx 32mm square.


Or if you would rather get a better hold
cut a bigger square of ali, drill a few holes to allow
the sikaflex to ooze through.

Drill a centre hole and pull an M5 or M6 rivnut
into place and hey presto - big ugly home made Big Head.

Wheel off. 4 New fasteners bolted into place.

Rough up inside of cycle wing, apply sikaflex and
gently lower into position.

Let cure.

Unbolt and then check to see if any additional bonding
required / bits missed etc.

Hopefully sorted.
